And a shout out to our community manager

—->  Note:  This post is an x-post from the Vocus blog.

She wanted the job.  That much was clear when she came into interview of the job.

She brought a book with her.  It was dog-eared, tabbed and highlighted to the extent it was clear the book was well used.  She was brimming with enthusiasm, quick and clear with her answers, and she’s already worked for Vocus for about four years.

Stacey Acevero was finishing college and working part-time as part of the Vocus Media Research team when we opened up a position for a social media community manager.  The book she brought was “Can we do that?” a book about outrageous marketing stunts by none other than Peter Shankman.

That was long before Vocus acquired HARO though Stacey is widely credited within the company has having put HARO on Vocus’ radar.  I hired her for three reasons: 1) enthusiasm 2) proven loyalty and 3) preparation.  It has proven to have been a smart move.

Last week Oracle announced its finalists for its Community Manager of the Year award program.  Stacey is one of three finalists along with Jeff Esposito of Vistaprint and Carly Severn of the San Francisco Ballet.

These three candidates were selected from about a hundred nominees that were submitted from major household brands – which speaks volumes to the work that Jeff, Carly and indeed Stacey have done.  Oracle researched their work to looking for engagement and evidence of sound community management.  Oracle will fly the three of them – expenses paid – to the Oracle Social Media Summit in Las Vegas next month where they will select a winner.

As those that have engaged Stacey on social sites shared by Vocus will attest she’s responsive, intelligent and curates great content.  Since the social sites Vocus facilitates include more than one brand, for example, PRWeb, you’ll see her handy work on our Facebook page, and our other Facebook page; our Twitter handle and our other Twitter handle, our Google+ account and our other Google+ account along with YouTube, SlideShare, LinkedIn and Pintrest to name a few.  If you check out Vocus’ new home page – that’s her on the cover.

She contributes to both the Vocus Blog and to BloggingWeb and her work has been featured in Ragan’s PR Daily, she’s been cited by Forbes and guest posted for Spin Sucks.  Earlier this year, she was named to Webbiquity’s Top #Nifty50 Women in Technology on Twitter for 2012

Simply said, Stacey’s amazing – she puts the “ace” in Acevero.  For all that she’s done, the single most important lesson I’ve taken away from working with her is just how much I’ve learned from her. She pushes the boundaries on social media; she experiments, evaluates and does so with a persistence and determination that is simply admirable.

So please indulge us for a moment as we recognize one of Vocus’ finest.  We hope you’ll join us in congratulating her and wishing her good luck in Las Vegas.

I’m glad you’re on the team Stacey. Rock on!
